Going Green in Murrieta for a Healthier Tomorrow
At Wendy’s Daycare in Murrieta, I believe that teaching children starts with living by example. From the moment they step through my door, the little ones in my care are surrounded by lessons—not just in reading and sharing, but in kindness, responsibility, and respect for the world around them. That’s why I’ve made a commitment to becoming a green, eco-conscious daycare. These choices aren’t just good for the planet—they’re good for the children, too. They create a safer, cleaner, and more mindful environment where healthy habits can take root early and grow into lifelong values.
One of the most exciting changes on the horizon is rebuilding the garden on the hill. It’s more than just a patch of dirt—it’s a living classroom. By growing fruits and vegetables together, the children gain a hands-on understanding of where food comes from. They get to dig in the soil, plant seeds, and experience the joy of watching something grow because of their care.
This connection to nature teaches them patience, responsibility, and the importance of nurturing living things. And the reward? Fresh, non-processed food they’ve helped cultivate themselves. From tomatoes and cucumbers to herbs and berries, our garden will be a source of pride and nourishment for all of us. It’s also a wonderful way to encourage even the pickiest eaters to try new foods—they’re much more likely to eat something they’ve grown themselves!
But the garden is just one piece of our little green puzzle.
I’ve recently welcomed chickens to our daycare “farm,” which has quickly become a favorite activity for the kids. Caring for the chickens teaches empathy, consistency, and respect for animals. Every day, the children help gather eggs and learn how these animals contribute to our well-being. The eggs we collect are not only fresher than store-bought—they’re also packed with more nutrients and come without the packaging waste. The presence of animals adds a special rhythm to our days, creating calm moments of connection and instilling a deep appreciation for the natural world.
Of course, caring for our environment also means paying attention to what’s in the air we breathe and the water we drink. That’s why I’m currently working toward installing a water filtration system for our daycare. Clean, chemical-free water is essential—not just for drinking, but for cooking and cleaning, too. I’m actively seeking grant opportunities to help make this upgrade possible, and I view it as a critical step in creating the healthiest environment I can. In the meantime, I’m doing everything I can to minimize exposure to toxins by being selective about the products I use every day.
That’s where my switch to Melaleuca comes in. I’ve replaced all our cleaning and household products with non-toxic, organic alternatives from this eco-friendly company. From baby wipes and hand soaps to laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid, everything I use now is safe for both children and the planet. These products are free from harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and dyes—common culprits that can irritate young skin and contribute to indoor pollution. I’ve already seen a difference in how fresh and clean our space feels, and I rest easier knowing that our little ones aren’t being exposed to harmful residues on their toys, clothing, or eating surfaces.
Each of these changes is rooted in the belief that our everyday choices matter. By going green, I’m not only reducing our environmental footprint—I’m giving children the tools and knowledge they need to be good stewards of the Earth. Whether it’s composting food scraps, using reusable containers, or simply turning off lights when we leave a room, we talk about the “why” behind our actions. These conversations help kids understand that their actions can make a difference, no matter how small.
My mission is simple but powerful: to care for kids in a way that supports their total well-being—physically, emotionally, and environmentally. Going green isn’t a trend at Wendy’s Daycare—it’s a long-term commitment woven into our daily routines and future plans. I’m building a business that reflects my values and a daycare that nurtures both the children and the world they’ll inherit.
I’m proud of the steps we’ve taken and the ones still to come. From planting gardens and raising chickens to filtering our water and choosing safer products, each decision brings us closer to a healthier tomorrow. And while it may take time, patience, and continued effort, I know it’s worth it. After all, these children are our future—and there’s no greater investment than teaching them how to care for themselves, each other, and the planet we all call home.
Together, one green step at a time, we’re growing something truly special. 🌱💚
